The World According to Garp, John Irving. I couldn’t put this down, at least until I got to about the last hundred pages, which I had to plow through. It’s horrifying, and it’s funny, and it’s shocking at times and mundane at others. By mundane, I refer only to the details of everyday life included in a book that otherwise is imaginative beyond anything I’ve ever read. For something that purports to be about events taking place to humans in the west in the last half of the last century, this is an extreme. Completely crazy, and well done.
